Tumlingtar is a small town situated in Nepal's eastern region. It is located within Nepal's Province No. 1 in the Sankhuwasabha district. Located in the Sankhuwasabha district of Province No. 1 in eastern Nepal, Tumlingtar is 390 meters (1,280 ft) high. It is located on the eastern side of the Sun Koshi River's main tributary, the Arun River. Situated in a charming valley, the town is encircled by verdant hills and the snow-capped Himalayan peaks.

About 5 kilometres (3 miles) northwest of the town centre is Tumlingtar Airport, also called Sankhuwasabha Airport. It is a tiny domestic airport. It offers frequent flights from Tumlingtar to Nepal's capital, Kathmandu. It takes about 35 minutes to fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar. Domestic airlines serve the airport, although weather conditions may affect the timetable.
Tumlingtar can be reached by road in addition to via air. The trip from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar, which is around 600 kilometres (370 miles) away, takes 14–16 hours by bus or private vehicle. Beautiful views of eastern Nepal's hills, valleys, and rivers may be seen along the road drive.
